Are you ready to learn to dance Lindy? Great, you’re in for a real treat! We have some tips and considerations to prepare you to learn you first dance steps.

With today’s technology, it’s easy to learn Lindy not only from the comfort of your own home but also from some of the best Lindy dance instructors in the whole world. It’s such a fun dance and culture, that’s great for both exercise and also creativity.

But first, how familiar are you with the origins of the Lindy?

Lindy Hop is the specific name for the original swing dancing that developed in the late 1920s and was popular until just after WWII. We have Black Americans to thank for this dynamic dance. It all started in Harlem, New York and if you aren’t familiar with the rich Black History of Lindy, make sure to click here

Choosing the Best Online Lindy Lessons: User Experience

Not only does iLindy have the biggest online library of 1000+ Lindy videos, but we’ve also taken into account the user experience of learning online by breaking up the lessons in a variety of ways. There are specific courses, like our Intro to Swing Course, Core Technique, Challenges, Solo, and more. You can also learn according to level, choosing from Level 1 to Level 5 with all of the material associated with each level. If you’d like a more a la carte experience, you can “choose your own adventure” by browsing the Library page.

Lessons are broken up into separate shorter videos. This is really handy when you want to go back to review a specific part of a lesson and makes it much easier to replay the section of the lesson you would like to practice.

You can leave comments on the videos and even ask questions for Kevin and Jo or another member of the iLindy team to answer. As a member of iLindy, you can also join our Facebook group to connect with other Lindy students around the world just like you.

We’re always working on iLindy to improve and add to the system. Most recently, we’ve started adding special learning opportunities like our limited-time 10×14 course. This is meant as a supplement to the main iLindy learning experience. These limited-time special courses are great opportunities to focus on particular material with special guidance from Jo or Kevin. But don’t worry if you miss one of these limited-time courses as there will be more again in the future—it’s something to look forward to!

Meet your Lindy Instructors

World Champion Swing Dancer Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg have been competing at the highest level of swing dance competitions since their partnership began in 2007. Since that time, they have also been traveling the world teaching Lindy (32 countries and counting) and showing the joy of the dance.

Jo Hoffberg started dancing in 2000, has won countless awards at the major Lindy competitions, and since 2007 she’s been traveling the world spreading jazz culture through vintage partner dancing with Kevin. They taught and performed in over 32 countries across five continents… and she can’t wait to help you take your first dance steps!

Kevin St. Laurent started dancing at the age of eight years old with Tap, Ballet, and Jazz. In 1995 he started Lindy and by 2000 he won the World Lindy Championships in Munich, Germany. He’s been a full-time professional Lindy Hopper since 2001 and he’s ready to share his knowledge with you!

Not only can you learn Lindy online with virtual dance lessons from Jo and Kevin, but if you’re looking for the best online Lindy lessons, you won’t find a more extensive library than iLindy’s. We have the biggest library of online Lindy lessons with over 1000+ videos! And not only are Kevin and Jo popular international dance teachers, but they’re probably the most experienced Lindy instructors at adapting their teaching for online learning.

Learning online is very different from learning in person, and that’s also true of teaching. The teaching needs to adapt for the medium, and not all dance instructors have much experience teaching online. When the 2020 pandemic hit and so many instructors had to quickly start teaching online, they had a very steep learning curve! Dance teachers really had to adapt their teaching methods for the online platform and it wasn’t an easy transition for every Lindy teacher to make.

Luckily, Kevin and Jo have already been perfecting teaching for online learning for well over a decade. They’re so proud of what they’ve built with iLindy! With their carefully-crafted online Lindy lessons, they’re sure you’ll love the experience of learning online. Jo and Kevin have worked hard to create the full online learning experience for you, packed full of Lindy technique, moves, and plenty of hilarity!

What to Expect When You Learn to Dance Lindy Online

Rewind or review the material as often as you like or cram through several lessons to get dancing quickly so you’ll be able to hit the dance floor with confidence.

At some point, if you’d also like to join a local dance studio, that’s great! Using iLindy.com at home is the perfect complement to your in-studio dancing as well.
